(The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougement as Told by Himself)

It’s in the telling, not the tale. Come one, come all for the truest flight of fancy you’ll never forget! Hear Louis de Rougemont’s story of survival in the Coral Sea as he battles typhoons, monstrous killer octopi and fierce cannibals in this rip-roaring delight for adventurers of all ages. Stranded on an exotic island with only a loyal dog for company, his world grows more fantastic, populated by flying wombats, giant sea turtles and an aborigine princess. Upon Louis’s return to civilization thirty years later, the account of his escapades makes him an instant celebrity. But was it real or just a figment of his imagination? Will he be vindicated or will his reputation be ruined forever?

From Ample Generosity of Glorious Leader #1, Vladimir “The Thunderer” Boograviboat

The Bóogravîan Opera Nacionale comes to Telluride to present their most famous and glorious epic, Wake Up! Unfortunately, this troupe of “actors” is sub par at best. Not only have they never performed this play before, but it’s likely they’ve never even SEEN a play before. Bóogravîa is a sad little country, wedged just between Bumblefuggria and East Jesustan. Their national sport is Donkey Ball, and their traditional delicacy is cat meat. No one’s English is very good, but that’s no surprise considering they learned it from watching a certain 90′s horror flick. This brand new clown show is full of hilariously bad acting, some atrocious singing, some very inept dancing, and definitely lots of tears.

Hallie Flanagan is perhaps most famous for heading up the Federal Theater Project, which put actors back to work during the Great Depression, and for being the first person to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities. In 1926, however —a decade earlier—she was in Russia, falling in love with new theater, new ideas, and a certain scientist. Playground visits Hallie at the beginning of her career, as a Vassar professor and in Russia, as she navigates life, love, and politics, discovering how the things that shape us also come back to haunt us.

A World Premiere play by Kimberly Rosenstock

Marcel Sr.’s Hamlet would have been the greatest Hamlet of all time—if he’d ever performed it. Instead, ten years after his death, it’s his computer programmer son who finds himself inadvertently playing the Melancholy Prince: in the basement of the family home for an audience of just his mom. Every Other Hamlet In The Universe is a play about the mantles we carry for our flesh and blood, and the roles we throw ourselves into when life becomes a kind of calamity.

Featuring: Tomas Andren, Trai Byers, Will Cobbs, Laura Gragtmans, Fisher Neal, Sarah Sokolovic, Shannon Sullivan

Based on the paintings of Belgian-born and Paris-based abstract expressionist painter Pierre Alechinsky, Atelier is experimental fusion of text and movement, created through an intensive eight-week collaborative process the company. Alechinsky’s work is part of the permanent collection of the Pompidou in Paris, and has been given retrospectives at the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the Guggenheim in New York, yet somehow it eludes even the keenest American scholars. Atelier sets about to examine the translation and interpretation of Alechinsky’s static images to the stage, and to explore the collision of the creator and his creation.
